The different ways of communication has changed drastically for a PR practitioner. To begin, Traditional communication is any form of media that was used before the internet. For an example, print, radio, and television are all examples of traditional communication tools. The tools are still used today, however we have been introduced to the internet which is a more modern communication tool.

Social media, email, websites, and blogs are all apart of modern communication tools. These platforms are seen as an easier way to receive news.

When googled, communication is “the imparting or exchanging of information.” So, when I think of communication, essentially it makes the world go around. For instance, Imagine if there was a world with no communication. How could we converse or express our feelings to one another? Communication is the heart of all relationships. We express our thoughts and feelings through by talking.

Communication is power because without it, we wouldn’t be able to express our thoughts, feelings, negotiate, or spread information whether it is true or false. Effective communication is finding the best way to covey thoughts and feelings to your audience, whoever or whatever that may be.

“In order for information to be “newsworthy”, I think that it needs to have all of the seven news values, which includes, proximity, conflict, prominence, impact, currency, and bizarreness. For an example, celebrity news involves prominence and mostly conflict. Although celebrity news is not as important as national news, it still has relevance and will generate more audience than regular people. For this reason, I think that pop culture is classified as news.

Another value of news that makes it “newsworthy” is timeliness. Timeliness matters because the faster you’re able to get news out, the better the audience. Also, you will generate more people tuned into your news because the audience will see your news as credible and will look for your news as a credible source.
